Your kitchen cabinets might be the first thing that need to be upgraded in your home. With kids often opening and slamming the cabinet doors, they are bound to wear down quicker than other things in your home. The moisture and cooking in the kitchen can also cause the finish on your cabinets to wear down. Usually, the doors are the first thing to show signs of wear and tear. Luckily, you can quite easily repair just your cabinet doors. If you do the majority of the work yourself, you can definitely make the project very cost-effective.
Ordering Your Doors
The first step is to have the cabinetmaker come to your house to assess your cabinets and take measurements. You will definitely need to have a professional cabinetmaker produce your doors. You are bound to have less problems if the cabinetmaker comes to your house and takes measurements of your cabinets, instead of you trying to order the replacement doors based on your own measurements.
The cabinetmaker will then produce the doors according to your specifications. They will have a wide range of styles that you can choose out of the catalog. They will also have different hardware hinges that you can choose from. You definitely want the hinges attached in the factory, but you can attach the hardware after the doors are hung.
Hanging the New Doors
Do not remove your existing doors until the new product arrives at your house. It will then be up to you to apply the stain or paint finish to match the rest of your cabinets. Your new doors will already be sanded and basically ready to be painted. All you have to do is quickly clean them before applying the new finish.
Usually, you can just remove the hinges by taking out a couple of screws. Since the new hinges will arty be attached to the doors, you just need to try and hang them properly. Hanging doors is slightly technical work and it is much easier if you have a helper. One person can hold the door in place while the other attaches the screws. That helper can use a level to double check that the doors are sitting right.
All that is left to do now is to attach the hardware or handles. Just like that, your cabinet system will look completely new and updated. This is a relatively cheap and easy way to change the entire style of your kitchen.
